What do y’all do to manage pain while passing stones?

I don’t have the fortune of insurance and can’t pay for a er visit. I’m no stranger to kidney stones but I’m very interested in what y’all have found to work? I was prescribed flomax years ago and those were a life saver but now when I take them I feel like I’m passing out.

The feeling like you're passing out on Flomax (tamsulosin) is a recognised side effect called orthostatic hypotension - it lowers your blood pressure and when you stand up too quickly the blood pools in your legs temporarily. Happens more often in people who are already dehydrated (which stone formers often are). If it's severe, try taking it at bedtime so you're lying down when the peak effect hits, and when you wake up, sit on the bed for a minute before standing. It usually gets better as ...

I don’t have insurance and my son and I had back-to-back kidney stone battles. We called a local mobile IV nurse, and she gave us an IV with magnesium, zofran, toradol, and a steroid for inflammation. It really helped with hydration and stopped the nausea. It helped my son’s pain a lot, but I ended up in the ER anyway, so I’m getting a bill that’ll make me cry, I’m sure. At home, I keep moving between bouts of extreme pain. I use a compression massager, and I drink a lot of water & lemonade...
