Hi everyone! I 27F went to the ER back in Feb for flank and back pain.. it was discovered through a CT scan that I have a 6mm kidney stone at the UVJ.. I was told since it’s near the bladder that it should go away on its own and was given tamulosin and told to drink lots of water…

flash forward to April 1 I had another episode of pain, not as bad as the first time but still bad… they did a CT scan and it is now 7mm and there’s some 1-2mm stones in my kidney, gave me some morphine and dilodid and I felt better, they prescribed me more tamsulosin, zofran, and codeine and just sent me home… currently waiting on the urologist to call me back to schedule the appt but honestly this whole experience has been messing up with my mental health. I have panic and anxiety disorder and anything with vomiting scares the fuck out of me…

I recently went to the ER yesterday for brown blood in my urine and they did another CT scan… 7mm stone hasn’t moved really (wtf!!!) and the one in my kidney grew to 5mm in the lower pole, no pain medicine administered I just went bc it was a lot of blood in my urine so I was afraid of obstruction.

I’ve been drinking a shit ton of water, drinking diet lemonade, lemon water, cut out all sugary drinks, all fast food, I cut down on my sodium intake! So why did it grow?? The only thing I could pin point it is that I was drinking more tap water from a PUR pitcher that has filter but I read that it doesn’t remove the hard minerals… so I just recently have been drinking purified water bottles…but all of this is taking a toll on me… I haven’t stopped crying because of the stories I’ve been reading on here about the recurrent vomiting episodes, my anxiety has gotten worse and wake up with my heart beating in my chest not knowing if today will be another day at the ER.. any tips to help with anxiety? The nausea? On getting the stones out? I have missed my best friend’s bachelorette party bc of this stone and I don’t know what to do anymore.

first, you are handling this incredibly well given what you are dealing with. anxiety disorder plus recurrent stone episodes is genuinely brutal and what you are feeling is a completely understandable response to an uncontrollable painful situation. a few things worth knowing: the 7mm stone in the UVJ - at 7mm the natural passage rate drops significantly. most urologists would not advise just waiting indefinitely at that size. the fact that it has not moved after months is worth a direc...
