Hey all!

After dealing with my 6mm kidney stone since October, I'm finally getting a lithotripsy Monday! But I want to know if there's anything I should have on-hand that helped other people. I've bought some comfort items like new pajamas and some crafts to keep my brain busy while I'm in recovery pain. I've seen others use wipes or have a rag in the bathroom to scream into. Anything would be helpful! Not sure about pain management, but I do have a 3 day supply of hydrocordone-acetaminophen on hand.

I used a heating pad and oxybutynin like crazy. I took Azo to the surgery center with me and took some as soon as I was released to help with the fullness feeling in the hour drive home. Definitely ask for oxybutynin and pain management before your procedure. Cough drops and Italian ice helped the sore throat after too.

I (M) always ended up with a stent installed - 4 of them. Not a whole lot of pain from the stent other than a mild "Hey I'm here!" Just make sure you have someone to drive you home afterwards (most hospitals won't let you leave alone). I did have pain and urgency peeing for a bit afterwards but as soon as I could I put very loose shorts on. I hate johnnies and trying to lift them out of the way to pee (male issue) I could drop those shorts in a split second! I can second the sore throat ...

Heating. Pad. And a really comfy spot to stay until the stent is removed. Oh and (if youre female) a postpartum peri bottle to squeeze water on your urethra while you pee or a regular cup to pour the water (if your a dude). Dilutes the urine so it doesnt sting so bad.

Azo helps. I had bladder and kidney spasms the entire time the stent was in (literally 24/7) and had to live in a very hot tub. Nothing would relieve the spasms but the tub could help. Continued for days after stent removal. I tell you this to prepare you that it could be your experience but hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones who doesn't have the spams! Heating pad, hot bath for spasms!
