Kidney stone disappeared after severe hydronephrosis and stent - is this possible??

I’m 24F.

A month ago I had very strong kidney pain and ended up with severe hydronephrosis (almost the worst case). They placed a double J stent and gave me medication to help dissolve the stone, just in case.

This is my second time having kidney stone problems. The first time I had pain for a few days and then it stopped, so I didn’t go to the doctor because kidney stones run in my family and others passed them naturally.

This time, the stone was clearly visible on X-ray and also seen during the procedure when they placed the stent (they pushed it back into the kidney). They told me there was a small chance I could pass it naturally because of the complications it already caused.

At my follow-up, we were supposed to plan laser removal, but the X-ray showed no stone. Then I had a CT scan, and it also showed absolutely no sign of a stone or even that there had been one.

The urologists said this is the first time they’ve seen something like this. Now I’m scheduled to remove the stent, but I’m worried - is it possible that the stone is still there but just not visible?

Can a stone really disappear or dissolve completely, especially after causing such severe hydronephrosis?

Also, I’m supposed to go on a longer trip in about a month and I’m not sure if it’s safe.

Any similar experiences or advice would be appreciated.
