Why is it not common place for a doctor to prescribe a good pain killer for kidney stones?

Where do you live? When I went to the ER they gave me a dozen Percocet to last me until I could get in with a urologist, who gave me more.

I've never had an issue getting pain meds for mine, this isn't a universal statement.

Doctors are cautious about opioids because of addiction concerns and liability, but that caution sometimes leaves people in absolute agony while passing a stone or waiting for a procedure. I begged for better pain control during my second removal and got basically nothing until they decided to sedate me, and by then I was already traumatized from the first time.

Wow! I would die for any narcotics at this point. I’m in Oklahoma. No offer from ER doc last Tuesday. Called my regular doctor this morning andtalked to her nurse and expressed my concern from taking too much ibuprofen. It feels like it’s eating a whole in my stomach. I now have to wait until Wednesday morning to see my Doctor.

I would have to assume doctors that don’t load you up on pain killers have not gone through this. I asked my wife a couple nights ago if she could knock me unconscious.

None of them work for me other than the IV drip in ER. At home I gut thru it with a super hot heating pad and regular Advil.
