Hoping for some insight here. A general ultrasound screening of mine picked up a couple of stones. No symptoms so far. I saw a urologist who said a CT renal scan was needed for treatment. The scan confirmed kidney stones. Now the Dr says I need a KUB before he can do lithotripsy. Is that normal or necessary? I don't get how the CT scan wasn't enough. Any info would be appreciated.

Stone Fighter #666C70May 13, 2026I think a CT is technically an X-ray. I'd ask what else they're using the extra imaging to look for compared to what's already been shown

Stone Fighter #5BD62AMay 13, 2026That does seem strange with the CT scan presumably being recent. When did they do it? It might just be to confirm you haven’t already passed them and save you an anesthetic you don’t need. That’s the only clinical reason coming to mind.
