Went in for an urgent CT scan Monday. They told me to head to the ER. They said I'd be transferred to another hospital, which took 14 hours. I was in pain on a gurney the whole time, no food and nobody checking on me. Got to the other hospital at 3am. Saw the urologist the next morning and he told me I've got 3 stones. 2 are 14 mm in the renal pelvis and the other one's in the lower pole at 11mm. The renal pelvis ones are causing a slight obstruction, but they won't operate since it's not an emergency.. they said I'll need surgery and put me on the outpatient waiting list. I explained that I'm in pain, lots of symptoms, blood in my urine, pain radiating to my shoulder and groin. They basically sent me home with acetaminophen and told me it could be several months before I get taken care of. Sorry, just needed to vent.

I dealt with the same kind of thing. My doctor kept sending me to the hospital's urology department, trying to get them to operate. I was lucky enough to have private insurance through work. I still had to wait about 6 weeks, but that's a much shorter wait.

I’d be pissed too. Sitting on a gurney in pain for 14 hours with obstructing stones and barely any updates sounds awful. And yeah, 14 mm stones are BIG. Those aren’t the kind you “just drink water and pass.” The frustrating part is hospitals usually only rush surgery if there’s full obstruction, infection, kidney function problems, fever/sepsis, stuff like that. So even when someone’s miserable, they still label it “non-emergency.” That said, getting sent home with nothing but acetaminophen...

Thank you. At least somebody gets it! I'm in pain but I still have to go back to work, and I've got a physical job that keeps me on my feet all day.. just gotta push through I guess
