My first kidney stone — the worst pain of my life
- Strategy
- Patient journey
I have never been in pain so bad that I couldn’t even walk, sobbing uncontrollably, fully convinced I was about to die. Changing positions did nothing, and I ended up on my hands and knees screaming in the ER. For someone who embarrasses easily, it takes a LOT to get to that point.
I’m hoping the stone passes today and chugging tons of water. Now I totally get why these things always rank at the very top of the pain scale. Holy crap.

I embarrass super easily too, and I was throwing up and screaming in the ER waiting room with zero shame because the pain was that bad 🥲 I totally get it! Try jumping up and down, and use a massage gun on your belly, on the side where the stone is. That helped me pass mine really fast! If you’re on flomax, even better! Keep drinking water until your bladder feels like it’s about to burst. That strong stream is what helps flush the stone out. You’ve got this!
I embarrass easily too, and I feel like I totally embarrassed myself at the ER 😅 I was pacing around, crying, down on my hands and knees, the whole deal. They gave me morphine, which did absolutely nothing for the pain but got me high, which somehow made everything worse. I am hoping and praying I never get another one.
Thank you!
