THIRD PCNL recommended for 6 cm staghorn calculus, two sessions already done

Has anyone here gone through a 3rd PCNL session? I really want to hear from others because I’m very worried about these procedures for my dad. He is 66, and the uro was not able to remove enough of the stone and said he may need more PCNL sessions. I would really appreciate any experiences or advice.

Stone Fighter #14E681Apr 19, 2026Not a medical advice. We had a similar experience and we luckily found a doctor in Vancouver General Hospital. He did a suction lithotripsy and got all the stones without PCNL that was prescribed for the third time by a different doctor.

Stone Fighter #14E681Apr 19, 2026It was not mine but my partner stone was accumulatively 2 cm. And previous stones removed via PCNL were 3cm each from both kidneys. She is in mid 30s and RIRS can only treat 3mm stone. But may be multiple sessions of less severe surgery??? If the reminder of the stone is 6 cm and that too staghorn it may not get treated by RIRS.
