Is just me but I am seriously afraid of Anesthesia! I’m opting into ESW with no Anesthesia to break my stone into parts.

I will not let them use anesthesia on me

General anaesthesia is incredibly safe nowadays. Having said that, the absolute vast majority of ESWL procedures in the UK and in many counties in Europe, no anaesthesia is used yet outcomes are very similar to North America where GA is near universal in the US and Canada where it is very common. I have had a few sessions when I was living in the UK and I would say it’s uncomfortable, a very repetitive mild thump in the side/flank.

I was released from the hospital two days ago. 1 6mm stone removed from my ureter and 4 from my left kidney. And a stent placed. No way would I do any of that without being knocked out. Best of luck!

It’s ESWL, not ureteroscopy. They’ll send waves and then the stones will pass naturally. They won’t place a stent. Different procedure
