hey everyone

i’m a female in my mid 20s and i think i might have a kidney stone. i am so beyond scared, this has been my worst nightmare ever since i was a little kid.

i’ve been peeing constantly for a few days now and over the last few hours i’ve had this weird discomfort in my back right below my ribs that’s slowly turning into pain, plus some sharp shooting pains down toward my lower abdomen. i’ve also got some nausea and chills.

please, tell me what i should do, tell me what worked for you, share some reassuring stories. anything helps. i’m in the middle of a full panic attack right now and i need some real life experiences to hold onto.

First things first, get to urgent care or the er if you’re in really bad pain. It might be a kidney stone, it might be an infection, and you’ll want to know which one. At this point, easier said than done, but try to stay calm. Whatever’s going on rn won’t get any better from stressing out. Do you have anyone who can drive you and/or look after you?

the pain is pretty dull for now but i’m really scared of when it ramps up. my boyfriend should be home soon to look after me

Okay that’s a relief. Just keep sipping your water. Don’t chug it, but stay properly hydrated. A heating pad helps if you’ve got one around. Just take some nice slow deep breaths. Try to get into urgent care as soon as you’re able, but if the pain gets worse head straight to the er so they can get you meds before it becomes totally unbearable. Don’t try to just tough it out. Fill them in on what’s happening and let them know you want to rule out a kidney infection since you’re dealing with ...
