Flank pain starting two days after ESWL
- Strategy
- Patient journey
Hey there, just wanted to get the experiences from those that went through EWSL.
Had my procedure almost 48 hours ago on a 7mm stone and experienced no pain afterwards other than minor soreness in the area they treated from. Fast forward to 3am this morning when I am awoken to kidney stone pain in my flank area.
The physician that did the procedure said to expect dust and maybe tiny fragments, and to use a strainer when I pee. I've used it every time and not so much as a speck of grain.
This is a lot of constant pain for tiny fragments. Did anyone else experience this after their procedure?

Yes, and they aren't tiny, they are a bunch of little kidney stones you need to pass. I had a Steinstrasse last year because of ESWL, started about 3 days later. Look it up on this forum. That was from a bigger stone... About 1.3 CM. But still. Just know you are now passing a bunch of smaller stones... Not just "tiny fragments". After my ESWL, the biggest fragment was 4x6mm.
EWSL just breaks up the stone. No control over how much it does especially if they donβt know the kind. I had the procedure once and still passed a few 1mm to 3mm stones after. I personally think EWSL sucks. Sounds great on paper but has a lower success rate than everything else. Would rather go straight to laser litho.
I had the same experience, 7mm stone with ESWL on Monday 23rd, and on 3am Thurs I had pain. Then 4am Fri, then 9am Sat. Did pass a 3.5mm chunk on the Saturday afternoon, but that was the last bit of pain! I hope all goes well for you.
