Newbie here. GI ordered an ultrasound that found two kidney stones. Do I make an appointment with urologist?

I'm being treated for GERD and SIBO by my GI. Ultrasound done last year found a polyp on my gallbladder. I just had a six month followup ultrasound for my gallbladder. This one found two non obstructive kidney stones so I guess I have a new health condition to deal with....
Kidneys: Normal-size kidneys. Small 4 mm right and 3 mm left nonobstructing renal stones. No evidence of hydronephrosis.
My appointment with my GI isn't until May. I'm assuming he's not going to treat the kidney stones and refer me to someone who can. Should I just go ahead and make an appointment with my GP or find a urologist right now? I have no symptoms.
I'm also assuming my GERD diet contributed to the kidney stones forming. Ive been eating a lot of sweet potatoes, whole wheat bread, spinach, and walnuts. I also noticed that my urine has been darker for some time so maybe I'm not drinking enough water?

Yes probably would be a good idea to make an appointment with a Urologist and he can advise you on your options in case stones start to cause issues. Also as I am sure you already know that diet along with not drinking enough water is a perfect breeding ground for creating kidney stones. Good luck!
yes, see a urologist directly. do not wait for the GI to refer you and do not wait until symptoms start. a 4mm right and 3mm left non-obstructing stone found incidentally is actually a good situation to be in because you have time to act before they become a problem. at 4mm the stone can still pass naturally but 3-4mm stones can also sit there and slowly grow over months. the most important thing to do right now is a 24-hour urine metabolic test. this tells you exactly why you are formi...
Thanks a lot for the detailed response. I made an appointment to see a urology PA tomorrow and they will schedule me to see a urologist if needed since they're booking pretty far out for new patients. They told me the PA can schedule all the tests that a doctor can so I'll make sure to bring up the 24h urine test. I know my citrate intake is pretty much zero due to GERD. I have a food journal due to my GI issues and yeah my diet is pretty oxalate heavy. I forgot that I also drink smoothies ...
