I went to the hospital 2 months ago with a 9mm stone and they blasted it and put a stent in. I have a physical job and outdoors in Phoenix. I’ve managed to keep the pain down with Tylenol (I can’t do my job on pain killers). I have a second surgery set for mid May to have stent and more stones removed and another stent put in. Today was the first day I’ve called out of work because of it and I’m not sure what’s different now. I’ve been in constant pain since it’s been put in but it’s been manageable for the most part. What helped yous? It’s been in for a few months now and I’m getting worried about infection.

a ureteral stent in for 2 months with a second procedure pending - that is a long time and your concern about infection is very valid. stents that stay in longer than 4-6 weeks do carry a higher risk of encrustation (stone material forming on the stent itself) and biofilm/infection. the fact that you have been managing pain with tylenol and it was okay until today is actually reassuring that things were stable. but the sudden worsening of pain today needs attention. red flags that mean ...
