Stent will be removed in 9 hours - best proactive non opioid medicine to take to avoid pain?

I’ve been prescribed flomax (which I am taking) and also I have phenazopyridine.

I’ve had a stent before this. This one was just pulled out - and two hours later I was in the ER with absolutely horrible pain - worse than any I had before then.

So… anyone take any over the counter pain medicine before stent removal? Does it help?

I was told to take a paracetamol and ibuprofen. They put a numbing gel on before removal too. I’ve not had a comparable stent removal to say whether it helped, but I didn’t have any pain.

How long has the stent been in and what type of treatment did you have? These metrics have been linked to risk of pain and visit to the ER post stent removal.

I was FREAKING OUT before my removal. But It was super easy. There was a very small amount of pain as the camera went passed the prostate, but it was super quick. The whole thing was over in about 60 seconds. The numbing gel didn’t hurt at all either. I took ibuprofen before, so that could’ve helped, but it was very easy!

- Flomax day of removal - AZO a few hours before removal - Ibuprofen or Aleve 1 hour before removal - Drink a big glass of water 30-60 min before removal. Hold in until you feel like you can’t any longer. Take a deep breath in and pull the stent fast/hard out while releasing the breath and the pee.

I didnt even know we could take anything, I went and they just put numbing gel and it was out within 10 seconds. Pain wasnt too bad but if I would've known I would've taken Tylenol and ibuprofen around 30 min before my appointment
