Has anyone in Toronto gone through lithotripsy recently and can share how long the process took from referral to procedure?
I was diagnosed with a 13 mm obstructing kidney stone in my left ureter on March 18 and was told it would require intervention. It’s now been about five weeks since my ER visit, and the only update I’ve had was on April 2, when an urology office confirmed my referral had been sent to St. Michael’s Hospital for lithotripsy.
When I contacted St. Mike’s, I was told it can take months just to get an appointment booked. In the meantime, I’ve been dealing with ongoing discomfort and constant bladder irritation (burning sensation and constant urge to urinate), and I haven’t been given any sense of what a typical timeline looks like. Any insight or recent experiences would really help.

Stone Fighter #761060Apr 24, 2026It took me a few months to get in each time. Typically, there's either a traveling machine or a traveling doctor to operate a lithotripsy machine. The 2nd time I needed surgery, the stone was about the size of a grape. It's really easy. You show up to your appointment, wait, then they put you out on the table. You wake up in a recovery room and go home. Now this is where it got interesting for me. I was in the ER that same night as the pieces were lodged in my ureter. I've had 29 stones ...
