6 months down the road....

My husband had a kidney stone 6 months back and ended up in the hospital, with a stent put in before and another one after his emergency surgery. He's doing okay now except his appetite never bounced back, he eats half of what he used to, and he used to love eating and would put away a ton of food in one sitting and he just can't do that anymore. He's lost 65 lbs through this whole ordeal, but 20 of that has come off in the last few months since the surgery. He's down to 170 now and he's 5'9 so not too skinny, but he hasn't weighed this little in 15 years. On top of it all he still CANNOT sleep through the night. He had the stone for about a month and was honestly traumatized by it. I'm sure yall get it. But ya he wakes up 3 or more times a night and he can't sleep in on weekends anymore, which is insane because he used to sleep 10 /12 hours on weekends. He saw the Dr but all he got was rx sleeping pills that don't work for him(trazadone), and none of the otc sleep meds work either. If anyone's got advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much.

I'm a urologist and I'd like to address the concerns you've raised. The big weight loss, loss of appetite, and sleep troubles after kidney stone surgery can sometimes be tied to the trauma of the whole experience, but they could also point to other underlying issues. It's important to rule out complications like a urinary tract infection, leftover stones, or stent related problems. I'd recommend seeing a urologist for a full workup including a urine test and possibly an ultrasound or CT scan....
He was genuinely traumatized by the whole thing. He jokes that he's got ptsd, but idk it was pretty bad.
I had to see a nutritionist after my first KS episode because I got scared of food. My head kept telling me ANYTHING would trigger another one... which just isn't true.
