One month after ureteroscopy, still feel a bit tender in kidney area

Hello,

(35M) I had had an ureteroscopy last month (5 weeks before to be precise) without stent. My recovery was generally easy and I was stone free after procedure. My first stone was in november, a 2mm one. The last one was a 6mm one which was already there in november (same size).

I still feel a bit tender in kidney area, like something a bit hurt or swollen (1/10 pain at most, not really noticeable).

I am afraid I am growing a new stone, is that possible? (I did not seem to be a huge grower but still I grew two). And does the full recovery (I mean the 100% one) can take more time?

I am taking a second 24H urine run and blood/fresh urine tests are normal so far. My last 24H urine showed elevated calcium so that my urologist will refer me to a nephrologist when I will see him again in two weeks.

My stone was also 60% calcium oxalate monohydrate, 20% calcium oxalate dihydrate and 20% phosphate. Is the 20% phosphate concerning?

Thanks

Five weeks out from ureteroscopy and still feeling tender is pretty normal -- your ureter got manipulated and you had a scope inside it, so some residual sensitivity sticks around. New stone growth that fast would be unusual unless you're dealing with a really aggressive situation, but what matters: are you staying on top of hydration? That's the actual difference-maker between getting another one soon or buying yourself time. Most people who get hit with a second stone within months aren't d...

Thanks, your post reassured me ; of course I cannot know for sure if I grow a stone or not but knowing being still tender is possible does not make me that pessimistic. The tenderness is a bit worse when I cross leg or sit in a bad position. I am doing 24H urine and already produced 3L so I guess I am Ok for this.

Position-related tenderness makes sense -- you're still healing internally even if the big stuff feels fine. Three liters a day is good, so you're doing the hard part right. Just keep that hydration boring and consistent, and you should be good.
