I had two kidney stones, one has already passed. The next one went from 1 to 2 mm and is causing pain sitting in my kidney. I was told because it’s not obstructing it isn’t the reason of my pain. Does anyone have any advice?

a non-obstructing stone causing pain is actually more common than people think. the 1-2mm stone in the kidney itself can cause intermittent flank pain due to irritation of the collecting system even without obstruction. your doctor is technically correct that it is not the primary cause in a classic obstructive sense, but that does not mean it is not responsible for your discomfort. what generally helps: \- stay well hydrated, at least 2.5 litres daily. it dilutes the urine and reduces...

Pain from a 2mm stone sitting in your kidney is actually legit, even without obstruction. Inflammation in the kidney tissue itself can hurt like hell, and your body's response to the stone being there regardless of whether it's blocking urine flow. Doctors sometimes miss that distinction. Keep up with hydration and maybe ask about imaging to track if it's growing, but yeah, you're not crazy for hurting.
