Pain sent me to the ER and it turns out I have a 9mm stone. I had laser surgery and the doctor said the stone wouldn’t break apart—it’s stuck in the ureter. She said she couldn’t really fit the stent around it. What do they do when this happens? My follow-up is in four weeks. The stent is in there and needless to say I’m in a lot of pain. Anyone else been through this?

The only option I’ve researched so far is going in through my back. I’m going to try not to wait four weeks. She said I’ll likely have kidney damage. This is scary.
Stone Fighter #FDE8C5May 12, 2026Hey OP, is there any way you could see a different urologist sooner than 4 weeks? If the stone is truly stuck and they couldn’t get a stent in around it, I’d be really worried about hydronephrosis (kidney swelling) and possibly an infection—because then yes, that would lead to permanent kidney damage if it went untreated. I’d also ask about ESWL
