Strategy: Patient journey

30F scheduled for a bilateral ureterscopy with laser Lithotripsy and 2 stents . To say im freaking out would be an understatement . I have 3 kids , one of which is 2 and a single income household and my husband works nightshift . Ive heard the stents are brutally painful (even the urologist warned me it could be even worse than the kidney stones) I don't know how im supposed to care for 3 kids if thats the case . ill have them for 2-4 weeks . anyone have any tips to get through this ?

Use the pain meds the give you. The stent is bad the first two days, but with the meds, you can be up and about after that.

I had the same procedure yesterday - but just on one side. I haven't had to take a painkiller, and the stent really isn't bad at all - I barely know it's there. I went grocery shopping today and carried the bags no problem. Far easier than I thought and virtually pain free. Hope your experience is the same.

I am getting the same procedure a week from today! Equally as scared, helps knowing I am not alone. I’ve had this surgery a handful of times but never both kidneys with two stents. Best of luck!

Had my procedure today, Friday . Resting at home. I have a stent and catheter that will be removed Monday. Doctor said it went well except I had some scaring and narrowing from prostate laser 4 years ago and he widened the “tunnel” as well.

I have one stent right now from a laser litho I had today and surprisingly barely feel it at all, even right when I woke up. I peed easy. Main awfulness for me was nausea from the anesthesia drugs. Was barfing bits of bile for almost 5 hours until I got myself into a hot bath, which seemed to calm down my stomach. It's occasionally a bit uncomfortable when I pee, but not painful. I'm not even on pain meds or azo tabs right now (but will absolutely take as needed). I've heard the stent can be ...

I needed antispasmodic medication to help with stent pain when I woke up from the surgery. After that it only really hurt when I peed sometimes, the rest of the time it was fine!
