Advice for another Kidney Stone
- Strategy
- Patient journey
Welp, for months off and on I've been feeling a familiar twinge in my right kidney. No pain and only lasting for a second here or there. My husband went to put his arm around me and I about died in pain so that and Ultrasound today confirmed it's a 5 mm stone, possibly 6 mm. It's still in the upper pole so still needs to move down and eventually try to get out.
I've passed a 5 mm at home before. My last one not even 9 months ago was a 1cm stone that required a failed shockwave and a traumatizing ureteroscopy/stent experience. I'm starting to feel it move, but my usual running routine isn't doing the trick yet...however I wonder if my working out the last two months has been shaking it loose. I am determined to avoid another stent at all costs. I’m planning to book urology now because that will take months. Eventually before that I'll likely go to the ER for a CT to speed up the testing process since doing it through the office, prior auth and scheduling route is a minimum of 4 weeks out.
Any advice or solidarity? I'm just thankful it's not a monster stone, but I'm ready for it to make an exit. Any advice on what you would do differently than me?
I do still have a flomax script but seems that won't help until it reaches the tubes. Can I just say I hate the kidney stone club we are all in 😭😭😭
